What final expense whole life includes

Final expense (sometimes called burial or funeral) insurance is a small whole life policy built to cover end-of-life costs and leave a little behind for the people you love. Because the licensed agents we connect you with are independent, they compare these plans across more than 20 A-rated carriers, including names like Mutual of Omaha, Colonial Penn, Globe Life, Transamerica, Aflac, Foresters, Gerber Life, and Lincoln Heritage, so you can see your real options side by side. Most plans share the same core features:

  • Guaranteed and simplified acceptance options, ages 45 to 85²
  • No medical exam, and many plans ask no health questions²
  • Up to $25,000 in coverage³
  • A rate that is locked in and will not increase⁴
  • A benefit that goes to your family, generally income-tax-free⁶
  • Plans starting at $5.86 a month¹

How the benefit works

Guaranteed acceptance whole life plans typically include a two-year graded death benefit. If death occurs from natural causes during the first two policy years, your beneficiaries receive the premiums paid plus interest rather than the full face amount. After that period, the policy pays its full benefit. Terms vary by carrier and state, and many applicants also qualify for simplified-issue plans that pay the full benefit from day one. A licensed agent can walk you through exactly what each option would pay.

Coverage, amounts, pricing, and availability vary by carrier and by state. Full sample-rate, underwriting, and carrier rating disclosures appear in the footer of this site.
